MooseCover (“MooseCover,” “we,” “us” or “our”), operated by BetterAds Solutions LLC, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal data when you visit moosecover.com and its subdomains, submit a quote request, or otherwise interact with our services (collectively, the “Services”). By using the Services you agree to the collection, use and sharing of your information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

What this Privacy Policy covers

This policy covers personal data we collect through the Services. It does not cover the practices of companies we do not own or control — including the insurance agents, carriers and marketing partners we match you with — even if we link to them or share information with them at your request. Their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies. “Personal data” means information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to you under applicable privacy law.

Categories of personal data we collect

• Identifiers and contact details: name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, email address, telephone number, date of birth.
• Quote request details: for auto — vehicle year, make, model, use, ownership, current insurer and insurance history, gender, marital status, education, military service, self-reported credit rating, employment status, homeownership; for home — home type, address, ownership and insurance history; for life — desired coverage, tobacco use and self-described health.
• Consent records: the consent language you agreed to, the time and page of your agreement, and third-party consent verification tokens (for example a Jornaya LeadiD or a TrustedForm certificate).
• Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, time on page, click and form-interaction data, and advertising identifiers collected through cookies and similar technologies.
• Marketing data: the campaign, keyword, source or partner that referred you to us.

We do not collect Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, payment card numbers or bank account numbers through the Services.

Sources of personal data

We collect personal data (1) directly from you when you complete a form or contact us; (2) automatically as you use the Services, through cookies, pixels and similar technologies; and (3) from third parties such as advertising networks, analytics providers, consent-verification services, data-validation services (for example, to confirm that a phone number or address is valid) and our marketing partners.

Information collected automatically

We and our service providers use cookies, web beacons, pixels, local storage and similar technologies to recognize your browser, remember your progress in a form, measure and improve the Services, and attribute visits to advertising campaigns. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies; doing so may limit some features. We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals. Where required by law we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data.

Interest-based advertising

We allow third-party advertising networks (for example Google, Meta, Microsoft and similar platforms) to place cookies and pixels on the Services so that they can measure our advertising and show you ads based on your interests. These networks may combine information collected on our site with information collected elsewhere. How we use your personal data

• To provide the Services — chiefly, to match your quote request with licensed insurance agents, carriers and other marketing partners who can offer you quotes.
• To communicate with you about your request, including by phone, text message, email and pre-recorded message where you have consented.
• To verify your identity and consent, prevent fraud and duplicate submissions, and keep records required by law.
• To measure, analyze and improve the Services and our advertising.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

How we share your personal data

• Marketing partners. When you submit a quote request we share the information you provided — and your consent record — with one or more of the licensed insurance agents, carriers, agencies, lead-management platforms and other marketing partners listed on our Marketing Partners page, so that they can contact you with quotes and related offers. These partners pay us for this introduction. Under some state laws this sharing is considered a “sale” of personal data; see Your state privacy rights below to opt out.
• Service providers. Hosting, analytics, advertising measurement, data validation, consent verification, customer support and similar vendors that process data on our behalf.
• Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of our business.
• Legal. When required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, property or safety of MooseCover, our users or others.
• With your direction. Any other sharing you request or consent to.

Data security and retention

We use physical, technical and administrative safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including TLS encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We retain personal data for as long as needed to provide the Services, to satisfy legal, accounting, consent-record (typically five years for telemarketing consent) or reporting requirements, and to resolve disputes.

Deletion of personal data

You may ask us to delete your personal data by emailing privacy@moosecover.com with the subject line “Delete my data,” or by writing to us at the address below. We will respond within the time required by law (generally 45 days) and will delete the data unless we are required or permitted to retain it. Deleting your data with us does not delete it from partners who already received it; you may contact them directly.

Personal data of children

The Services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us personal data, email privacy@moosecover.com and we will delete it promptly.

Your state privacy rights

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, California residents have the right to know what personal data we collect, use and disclose; to access and receive a copy of it; to correct inaccurate data; to delete it; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data and of targeted advertising; to limit the use of sensitive personal data; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. In the preceding 12 months we have collected the categories listed above and have sold or shared identifiers, contact details, quote request details and device data with marketing partners and advertising networks for the business purposes described above. To opt out of sale or sharing, email privacy@moosecover.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share,” or enable Global Privacy Control in your browser.

Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and other states

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws may have the right to access, correct, delete and obtain a portable copy of their personal data and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. If we deny your request you may appeal by replying to our response with the word “Appeal”; if the appeal is denied you may contact your state Attorney General.

Nevada residents

Nevada residents may opt out of the sale of certain personal data by emailing privacy@moosecover.com with the subject line “Nevada Do Not Sell Request.”

Exercising your rights

Submit requests to privacy@moosecover.com or by mail to BetterAds Solutions LLC, 2021 Fillmore St PMB 2075, San Francisco, CA 94115. We will need enough information to verify your identity — typically the name, email and phone number you submitted — and to understand your request. We respond within 45 days and may extend once by a further 45 days where permitted. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with written authorization. We do not charge for requests unless they are manifestly unfounded or excessive.

International visitors

The Services are hosted in the United States and intended for U.S. residents only. We do not knowingly offer the Services to residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or other jurisdictions outside the United States.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here with a new effective date and, where changes are material, provide additional notice on the Services. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
